Today feels like a very magical day for me. It is November 2nd–All Souls’ Day for many. And…it is the day of the full moon. November’s full moon is called by some “The Frost Moon.” The photo you see is last year’s Frost Moon.
As I described in yesterday’s message, November is a very magical time. It is the pause in our year, the deep inhalation of breath–the in-between time. We are letting go of all the bloom and vegetation of the year and anticipating the new growth that we know is already beginning under the surface. For we humans, it is a perfect time to take lessons from our tree cousins–let go and shed the old. It can be a time to let go of clutter, of clothes that no longer fit, of house decor that is no longer necessary. It can be a time to shed and pass on to others–those in need and those who would benefit from what we have. The outdoor landscape reminds us that we don’t need a lot in our lives to experience the beauty of life. Just as a tree bare of its leaves is still a symbol of majesty, so can we stand erect and majestic in the clearing.
This is also a perfect time of year to begin to go inward to experience all the richness that lies within us. We each are filled with unlimited gifts and gems. All we have to do is begin to explore the rich landscape of our own inner being to excavate the unpolished diamonds within. Nature beckons us to spend time with her in all her naked splendor but she also urges us to go inside our homes and inward to tend the fires within.
The November Frost Moon is a magical time. It reminds us of the clarity we can find at this time of year. With less in our lives and less surrounding us, we have the ability and the opportunity to go within and find our way. As stated in yesterday’s message, the sky is more accessible to us because no longer are there leaves blocking our vision to the sky. The November night sky can be clear and crisp and bright and with November’s Frost Moon (or Hunter’s Moon to some), we can find our way in the night as well as in our hearts.
May you find what you’re looking for in the months ahead. And please enjoy the magic of tonight’s Frost Moon by taking a walk beneath it.
