It’s important that we create harmony between mind, body and spirit. Each of us has to find what speaks to us–which foods, products, practices, and experiences nourish us and aid us in experiencing “perfect health.”
Through attending the Chopra Center Perfect Health retreat a couple of years ago, I learned many practices that I try to incorporate into my daily life. Meditation, yoga, self-massage, baths, aromatherapy, preparing my physical environment–which includes color, light, and music–as well as other daily practices help me tap into and engage my own “inner pharmacy.” Our fives senses, which we experience through our eyes, ears, tongue, skin and nose are the pathways through which we experience the world. They are also the pathways to the creation of perfect health. They comprise our own Bellisima Inner Pharmacy!
The Chopra Center explains, “Just as our bodily tissues are created from the food we eat, the composition of our minds is created out of our sensory impressions. The quality of these impressions determines the quality of our thoughts and feelings. Sounds, feelings, sights, tastes, and smells can all be used to balance, nourish and heal. Favoring those impulses that balance our current mind body physiology ensures optimal integration between mind, senses, body and environment.”
I’ve learned that what I put in my body, on my body, and what surrounds me in my environment all have an impact on my holistic well-being. I can incorporate elements and practices that enhance my health–that help me create my own perfect health–or I can participate in activities that take away or prevent me from maintaining good health. Some of what I have incorporated into my life came from what I learned through the Chopra Center. As someone who likes to create her own practices and rituals, there are other elements that I have created from other sources.
What I did learn from the Chopra Center to help me connect with my own Bellisima Inner Pharmacy are the following:
1. Healing through Sound: Music, mantras, primordial sounds can all help with healing and awakening energy centers in our body.
2. Healing through Touch: Self-massage with oil can nourish the body and stimulate health and well-being.
3. Healing through Sight: The images we focus on, shapes, and color can all have a powerful effect on our mind. What we look at can improve our well-being and enhance our living and working environments.
4. Healing through Taste: The Ayurvedic word for taste is Rasa which also means emotion or mood. What we taste impacts and elicits emotions.
5. Healing through Smell: Aromas and scents can trigger healing powers within and invoke states of well-being.
6. Healing through Laughter: Laughter is good medicine. Scientific studies have demonstrated that a good belly laugh enhances immune function for 24 hours. So, it’s great to look for opportunities to laugh in life (and at life).
The foundation of the products and services provided by the Chopra Center is based on Ayurveda, a 5,000 year old healing system from India. Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit word ayus which means life and veda which means wisdom, so Ayurveda–the wisdom of life–offers a guide for attaining happiness, vitality, love, and purpose. What I especially love is that the Chopra Center explains that health is not the absence of disease–it is a dynamic state of physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Health, happiness, vitality, and beauty are the fruits of a balanced life which is achieved through lifestyle choices that nourish body, mind and soul. Our environment has a profound influence on how we feel. Education, services, and products that engage all five senses–sound, touch, sight, taste, and smell–can enliven our inner pharmacy. Creating a harmonized daily routine is a necessary step to achieving Perfect Health.
I use products from various sources, but I especially love some of the products I discovered while at the Chopra Center. Explore the Chopra Center Store for yourself. Not only will you learn about their products, but you can learn more about yourself. Namaste. Ciao.
